Suzanne Close is an arts educator, curator and Public Programs Coordinator at Adelaide Central School of Art. She holds a Master of Art in Curatorial and Museum Studies and has degrees in Art History, Visual Arts and Education. Suzanne has curated numerous exhibitions featuring South Australian artists and is currently the guest curator at Flinders University Art Museum (FUMA) for The Guildhouse Collections Project x FUMA: ‘The Disquiet’. For this project, she is working with five local contemporary artists as they respond to FUMA’s collection of political posters from the 1970s.

Her previous curatorial projects include 'Unravelling Encounters' (2023) at Light Square Gallery and 'Counting Days: Frank Grauso’ at the Barossa Regional Gallery and The Adelaide Festival Centre (2022-2023). Suzanne was the 2022 Adelaide City Library Emerging Curator and presented the ‘Reading Between’ exhibition within the public library space. In 2021 she curated ‘Adelaide X’ at Post Office Projects that examined local collaborative practices. She was the 2020 SALA winner of the City of Onkaparinga Contemporary Curator Award and, as a result, curated ‘Hiraeth’ (2021) at Sauberier House. Suzanne was the 2020 recipient of the AHCAN & Floating Goose Early Career Curator program, presenting ‘The Uncertainty of Knowing’ at The Floating Goose. Suzanne believes in working collaboratively with artists to develop exhibitions that support their practice while offering new perspectives to the audience.

In addition to her curatorial experience, Suzanne is an experienced visual arts teacher and has developed educational resources to accompany exhibitions. With a background as a multi-disciplinary artist, holding a First-Class Honours degree in Visual Art, shee has been actively engaged with the arts sector as a Helpmann Academy Creative Innovator Mentor and as a previous Codirector of FELTspace, holding Finance and Grant Officer positions.

Research and writing are essential aspects of Suzanne’s curatorial practice. She has written reviews for Artlink and Fineprint magazine, as well as catalogue essays, including the upcoming ‘If you don’t fight … you lose’: Politics, Posters, and PAM publication. Suzanne’s experience as an artist, writer and educator continue to inform her curatorial practice.
