HIRAETH

The Welsh term, Hiraeth, has no direct English translation but refers to a longing or homesickness for a place you cannot return or one that never was. It is associated with the bittersweet memory of missing something or someone while being grateful for their existence.

SALA [GRFATd] exhibition at Sauerbier House, Port Noarlunga, South Australia.

Suzanne curated this exhibition as the 2020 winner of the City of Onkaparinga Contemporary Curator Award.

This exhibition has been supported by Arts South Australia, The City of Onkaparinga and NuVue Studios.

The exhibition draws on the domestic and agricultural history of Sauerbier House, touching on nostalgia for times and places that are not our own but are entwined within our collective memories and personal histories. In responding to the historical cite, the artists have explored their connections to the land and the longing that comes from being disconnected from home.
