Kaurna Seasons
Students were inspired by the Kaurna seasonal calendar, as our school is located on the lands of the Kaurna people.
Year 9 students created silk-screen prints and fashion designs inspired by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander seasonal calendars. Students researched a specific season, such as the warm Kaurna season Warltati. They discovered the seasonal indicators, such as the winds, the position of the stars, migration of animals and flowering of plants. Inspired by the seasonal indicators, students produced sketches leading to the development of a repeating silk-screen pattern.
While working online during the pandemic, students further experimented with their designs by incorporating their pattern into a series of fashion designs. Some of these designs are digital drawings, while others were drawn and painted in a range of media before being photographed by the students.
